What the Night Sky Teaches Us

While I was in Hawaii, I had the delight and joy of visiting the Mauna Kea Visitor’s Center, which is over 9,000 feet above sea level. We saw an amazing display of stars, as well as the planet Saturn and its rings. Spending an evening there was such an expansive experience. It is truly a sacred place. I wanted to share this wisdom from the night sky:

* See the big picture

* Be a star

* Keep looking up

* Don’t be afraid of the dark

* Stay full of wonder

* Expand your horizons

* Turn off the lights

As I transition from summer to a new school as a part-time school librarian, I am following the wisdom of the Night Sky. This year, I decided to change school sites, so I’m feeling vulnerable about the change and new situation, along with some sadness of leaving the community at my previous school. However, I needed the change, and I wanted to honor that calling within me.

So I return to the wisdom that the sky offers me, praying for the courage to not “be afraid of the dark,” which is the unknown and the new right now.

May we stay full of wonder, and be willing to expand our horizons. Mahalo.
