Inspired chores
Well, this morning, I woke up to a host of chores that needed to get done. As I began cutting the carrots for the beef stew I was making, I thought about the philosophy of “finding God in all things.” Since I have been reflecting on living an inspired life, I invited myself to bring this attitude to what I was doing. I called out to God: let me see this moment as praying, and not only when I am sitting in my bedroom chair engaged in Centering prayer, a contemplative meditation practice.
As I cut the onions, then the carrots, and patiently piled in all the ingredients, stirring, and adding just the right spices, my patience and appreciation grew. I noticed if I relaxed into what I was doing, instead of thinking that I wanted to be doing something else, then the moment could fill out and I could really appreciate it. This expansion of my perception and the opening of my heart changed the tone to what I was doing into an act of prayer. This spilled over into folding the towels, watering the garden, and washing the car with my husband.
Inspire your daily life and acts with an attitude of appreciation and seeing “God in all things.”
