Making Room for More Gratitude: Day 9
Making Room for More Gratitude: Day 9.
–21 days of Gratitude: Awakening the Heart
As we engage with practicing gratitude in our daily lives, we begin to notice what creates states of ingratitude in us. It’s important to notice the thoughts and feelings that block us from deepening gratitude in our hearts, and learn to let them go, or address them as needed.
I recognize that my weakness is the habit of comparison, which stems from being raised in a family of ten children. So, I notice it, and I practice letting go of it. I turn in the direction of gratitude as a new choice, which is becoming a really helpful and powerful practice.
In her book, Living in Gratitude, Angels Arrien states: November is the month of letting go of what is not longer needed or has fulfilled its purpose, just as trees now release the last season’s leaves…The practice of releasing or emptying provides room for new possibilities, opportunities, and blessings to enter our lives. So what is it you need to let of, in order for more gratitude to fill you and energize you. Perhaps, this poem will inspire you:
She Let Go
–by Revered Safire Rose
She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go. She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back. She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.
She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.
