Small Pauses

The weeks are full, and at times leave me overflowing like too much water filling the bathtub. It’s time to pause. Yes, pause. Hard to do when the to-do list is long. Yet, I need to stop doing and reconnect with my being.

How can I listen to this desire? First, I acknowledge that I need to renew, refresh, and rejuvenate myself. Even allowing myself to hear my need is important in creating an opening. Then, I look at my schedule and give myself the freedom to rearrange my afternoon commitments. I take a “small pause” and spend the afternnon relaxing at simple spa, which has a sauna and a steam room. Other times, I take a walk at a Japanese garden, or wander around a museum, or turn off my cell phone.

It’s not so much what I do, but more about taking time to care for myself and empty out a little so that the water isn’t overflowing. I can return to my daily life with more spirit, more joy, and more generosity. Taking care of myself with “small pauses” creates large results in my daily life.

How can you create a small pause in your life today?
