Finding the Courage in Encouragement

O Lord, Come to my Assistance.
O Lord, Make Haste to Help Me.

Seven times a day the Trappist monks at the Abbey of Gethsemani, and many other monasteries around the world, come together in prayer, and except for the early morning prayer, all the other prayer periods start with this humble call.

O Lord, Come to my Assistance.
O Lord, Make Haste to Help Me.

At a time, when I am needing encouragement, and the courage within encouragement, I say this prayer. As my mother struggles to regain her mobility in a rehab nursing center, and we prepare to move her into assisted living, I say this prayer. As my heart aches with the sadness of never being at my mother’s house again with her, I say this prayer.  As I feel the pressure of time and money, I say this prayer. As I face a sleepless night, I say this prayer.

This prayer is all of ours. And we stand in the faith that God wants to hear it, wants to hear our call, and is there listening, waiting for us.

O Lord, Come to my Assistance.
O Lord, Make Haste to Help Me.

Let this be your prayer throughout the day.
