Living into Surrendering: Practice Gazing
Living Into Surrendering: Day 12, Gazing
I have decided to live into surrender more consciously for 21 days, and share the journey with others. I invite you to join me, for the benefit of your own peace, and the peace of those around you.
My prayer today is to have a more creative gaze on my life. This is a time of uncertainty, which of course can produce fear. But is there a softer way of looking at myself, my life, and those around me. This is the way God looks at us, with creative joy.
I love the idea of gazing, which is a way of looking gently and softly, a way of looking that is receptive. But only you, Dear One, can change my eyes, and show me how to emerge into your fullness and love.
What’s it like for us to imagine the Holy gazing at us creatively. What if we could shift our gaze, to look at ourselves creatively? What might that look like and feel like?
Here’s a question to ponder: What would it look like to have God gaze at you creatively?
Practice:
- Gaze at your hands lovingly.
- Ask the Holy: what you need to hold onto, to embrace, and what you need to let go of—to surrender.
As the poet, Rumi puts it:
The patron of your eyes is God,
Who is always alive and creating constantly.
