Love Note #5: Love & Gratitude
I have found that exploring, discovering, grappling with, and deepening gratitude has offered me a more generous way of living into love. Gratitude is love in action.
Yesterday, I more intentionally practiced gratitude, even though I wasn’t feeling good. My body was tired, I had some demanding deadlines, and I just felt discouraged. So, I decided to deliberately notice moments in my day when I could respond with gratitude, saying “Thank You” more intentionally, appreciating what was around me, and letting a sense of gratitude fill my heart.
I was reminded of the power of practicing gratitude during difficult times. Wow! There were so many moments to be grateful for: the beauty of the blue sky on a clear, cool day, the warmth and smile of the cashier at the local grocery store, the gift of homemade butternut squash soup for lunch, and the inner whisper of, “You are a beloved child of the Holy.”
Time and time again, I found myself saying thank you, thank you, thank you. By the end of the day, my difficulties didn’t disappear, but the generous spirit of gratitude filled my heart with love, and eased the weight I was carrying.
May the spirit of loving gratitude carry you today!
