Allowing

I opened one of my journals from the period of time I was writing my book, Comfort and Joy, and came across this paragraph that I would like to share:

I found the first step in learning to comfort myself was being receptive to what I was going through, not resisting or trying to control my feelings, but rather opening a place in myself to hold my struggling.

The intention expressed in this paragraph is something I continue to experience. I often find myself holding on too tight, trying to control the pure emotions that want to be expressed? Can we comfort ourselves, our struggles, our pains, our resistances, by allowing ourselves to have our feelings?

A journal is a wonderful way to express ourselves.

Cultivating Comfort
Your voice is waiting for you. Can you give yourself the comfort of listening to it? Open a journal and begin speaking. Keep it simple, write for three to five minutes a few times a week, about everything and anything, from the experience of getting your hair cut to your craving for more affection.
