Love it out

I have been feeling discouraged because my toe pain is still quite persistent, even after three weeks of using a walking boot and crutches. And just this morning, as I slipped out of bed and put on my orthopedic walking boot, I thought to myself: Well, I just have to tough it out. Yet somehow these words sounded harsh to me. Yes, I have to persevere and hope for the best, but perhaps there was another way to approach myself in this situation.

Then, I thought, perhaps I can love it out instead of tough it out. Yes, that had a better sound to it. Now, what would love it out actually be like?

Rather than endure what I was going through, I would embrace what I was going through. Rather than push myself, I could pamper myself. Instead of just doing what I had to do to get through the day, I could actually find ways to enjoy my day.

I realized that this change in language signified a change in my attitude towards myself and what I was going through. So many times my mother has reminded me how powerful our attitudes are in shaping our experiences. Now, I could see it more clearly.

What is the unspoken attitude that you are reinforcing to yourself about what’s going on in your life right now? It’s worth noticing. Ask yourself —  is my attitude helping me or hindering me?

Here are some great quotes on attitude. Enjoy! And please share your thoughts about the power of attitude.
