Waves of Anger

Lately, I have been experiencing waves of anger. I have been hesitant about sharing these emotions out loud, but last night I was talking to a friend at an art opening about it, and my thinking turned around.

Comfort and joy has paved a deep groove in my psyche, and now I am living comfort in my daily life. However, I am now experiencing the intensity of anger and rage. Why does one have to exclude the other? asked my friend. Of course they don’t. The range of emotions is inclusive to the human experience. Comfort and joy, as well as anger and rage are part of the living series — the living series of life.

Here are some simple ways to I used to express my anger. I encourage all of us go get to know these shadow feelings and find was to honor and get to know the range of emotions we all feel.

  • Let yourself feel the difficult emotion. Don’t run from it. Say to yourself, “I am feeling angry right.”
  • Draw your rage. I did a series of drawings that looked like burning flames. They are messy, and explosive, with lots of scribbled lines and black and red color. Get some markers and a large pad and let it out!
  • Write about it. My journal pages are filled with large words that express my rage. The words are written in large type across the pages. It feels good to let out it for pages.
  • Move. Dance. Swim, Ride a bike, Walk for miles. Get the energy moving through your body.
  • Let it out and know when to stop. There comes a point when the anger can become destructive. Know your edge and watch for it.

After you freely express yourself, take time to comfort, soothe, and reassure yourself. Now let it out! Get to know all of you.
