What is Stirring in Your Heart?

Wednesday Wisdom. Living with Sacred Intention.

Our life is a sacred journey, and Christmas once again awakens us to the truth that Divine life lives in us. So now that the festivities are over, such as seeing the Nutcracker ballet,  visiting family, and eating holiday meals, we pause for a moment and ask ourselves–what has awakened in me this Christmas season, during this season of light and love?

My holiday was filled with joy and sorrow; with fullness and emptiness; with laughter and tears. I was so grateful for the warmth of home and family, for the deep meditations on the nativity, for my church community, and for friendship and good food. And I also experienced a depth of mourning that was filled with tears and sorrow for the loss of my mother.

How do we expand and allow ourselves to hold the fullness of life in our hearts and in our bodies?

As the new year approaches, I listen in my heart to what is stirring, what is calling to me. I am attracted to this notion of “joyful enthusiasm,” which I read about in the classic: The Cloud of Unknowing. In the context of the book, the author is referring to engaging in our spiritual practice with a sense of joyful enthusiasm, and not with a sense of hard work and grinding. When I read that, I immediately thought, “That’s how I want to live my life!”

I invite you to pause and listen to what is stirring in your heart, what is calling to you as we approach the new year.

Pause and Reflect

  • What is an intention you have for the new year?
  • What is your prayer for yourself?
