Deepening Your Receptivity

Wednesday Wisdom. Deepening Your Receptivity.

Our interior lives need to be nourished. And as we care for our inner lives, we become more receptive. We learn to dwell more deeply within, and allow ourselves to more fully receive the presence of the Divine, forever unfolding in our life.

I share this simple practice to support your inner journey:

  • Come into this sacred moment. Take three deep breaths. Let yourself find a calmness. It’s not far away. Repeat the mantra: I am at home in myself, as you sink more into yourself. Feel how restful it is to dwell in yourself—even for a few moments.
  • Now, invite the Divine to dwell with you in your inner room: Dear One, Be at home in me. You may have an image, or a feeling of presence, or a wave of energy. Relax and be with it. Close your eyes if you’d like and take it in. Create your own prayer for the moment.
  • Stay with what you are sensing and experiencing for a few minutes. Encourage yourself to become more passive and receptive to this interior dwelling from which you are building a deeper relationship, to yourself, to your life, to the Divine, and to others. They are all interconnected.
  • You may like to spend time writing and drawing in your journal.

As we deepen our receptivity, we may experience the gift of tears more often. I love this notion of spiritual tears; for sometimes when we pray, we are overcome with tears; it’s all though our hearts are bursting open and the tears flow. We experience a love of God that is as trustful as it is tender. Our tears just happen, when we are moved, when we feel vulnerable.

In an article on the gift of tears, Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat point out that: There is strength in tears. We weep with gratitude over all the amazing gifts from God that come our way. We cry when we share moments of great elation with others. Tears enable us to get in touch with our deepest feelings. They help us express our grief at endings and the loss of those who are precious to us.

Tears are prayers too. They travel to God. When we can’t speak.
