Gratitude Journal, Day 8

Sometimes negative thoughts just creep in, doubt finds a way into my mind, and my thankfulness is challenged. During the day, I had the attack of the ‘negatives’ as I call them. And I had to fight hard not to let them overtake me. I had to make a decision that my peace was important and I wasn’t going to let thoughts about ‘what didn’t happen in my life‘ or ‘what my family isn’t‘ take away all that was present in the moment.

So as I was riding my bike, I kept saying thank you to everything that was around me: Thank you blue sky; Thank you tree; Thank you legs that I can bike ride; Thank you for my husband Mark who was riding with me; Thank you for all the delicious food I could buy in the morning at the store.

And every time  my mind began to sink, I kept calling out Thank You to all that was around me. It helped. Sometimes, when we are attacked like that, it’s good to shower the negativity with gratitude and see if we can become released from the grip of darkness.
